How to Deal with Unbelief—Raising Izzie

I don’t know a Christian who has not battled with unbelief at some point in their Christian walk.  I am sure that this is the very reason that the movie, Raising Izzie, resonated so well with me.

In a nutshell, the movie highlights the stories of two families:  one is that of a 14 year old young girl (Gertie) who is left to raise her 10-year old sister (Izzie) alone after the death of their mother.  The other is that of a loving husband (Greg) and his wife (Tonya) who are struggling with their inability to have children.

The beauty of the movie is found in the real life struggles faced by both families; struggles that are different but yet very similar.  Within each family, one individual has lost their faith as a result of life’s circumstances.  They are finding it hard to believe God in the midst of their trials and hardships.

Does this sound familiar?

The story line was all too familiar, but  yet there was a freshness in the way that the story unfolded.  Any Christian can identify with the innate desire to believe God and the contradictory messages that life can so often bring.

The movie, Raising Izzie, reminds us that in our walk with Christ we may not always understand why He allows certain things to transpire in our lives.  However, through it all, He continues to be a God who is in control.

The movie is truly uplifting and encouraging, and it resonates the themes of faith, family and love.  It is a wonderful movie for children to watch because it demonstrates the fact that God can use anyone that He chooses to bring about His perfect will.
